Dawson Cram was back behind the wheel of the #41 Chevy last Friday, August 20th, 2021, at World Wide Technology Raceway. Nestled near the St. Louis Arch, the track formerly known as “Gateway” hosted the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, for the first race of the Truck Series Playoffs, a monumental race for those involved in the fight for the championship. For Dawson Cram’s #41 team, there was a monumental moment of a different sort. The race at WWT Raceway marked the one-year anniversary of Cram Racing Enterprise’s establishment in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Dawson Cram’s #41 team celebrated one year of operation, celebrating the struggles, and the triumphs of the past year. Team co-owner Kevin Cram states “What an accomplishment it was to celebrate the one-year anniversary of starting our team! The truck that we brought to WWT Raceway showed speed and how far our team has come.”

Cram was solidly competitive in the top-twenty, with a truck that was underfunded and with lesser equipment than over half the field. Despite that, Cram’s driving ability and skill set navigated the #41 near a top-fifteen run, before trouble struck. A slowing John Hunter Nemechek caused a stack up in front of Cram, and the #41 truck collided with the #18. With severe damage, Cram made a wise decision to park the #41 for the remainder of the race. It was a cruel blow in what would have been a statement race for the team. For Dawson, there was some positive in a night filled with “what ifs.” “We were competitive all night, battling with top teams. It’s great to see our hard work paying off, knowing we can unload and be competitive!”

The team now reflects on the previous year, with a glaring need in their future- sponsorship. Team co-owner Kevin Cram states “We definitely know it takes good equipment to be good, and great equipment to run up front. Great equipment takes resources beyond what we can currently afford. We’ve reached a point where we need sponsorship to continue. We are in search of sponsorship to keep us racing, and enable us to gain the resources we need to compete at the front. We are hoping, with that sponsorship, we can make the transition from good to great!”

Cram’s team faces a crossroads without sponsorship- race at a financial loss, or sell the team’s assets and points. Racing costs an exorbitant amount of money, and to be a competitive team requires strong partnerships and financial support from sponsors who see the value in utilizing this platform. For Dawson Cram, his focus remains the same, to be a professional driver at the top level of this sport. He remains firm in his faith that whatever comes next, is just the next step in continuing that journey to the top.
